Following two successful courses in 2014 and 2016, we will organize another 5-days course in collaboration with Prof. Martin Grosell located in the brand new labs at Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science (RSMAS), University of Miami.

Objectives
To give participants an understanding and overview of methods and hands-on with modern equipment. The emphasis of the course will be on marine fish, but the techniques can be used for freshwater fish and aquatic invertebrates as well. The course is based on lectures, lab exercises and plenary discussions. The final part of the course constitutes a written project.
During lab exercises participants will measure swimming performance, cost of transport, active as well as resting metabolic rate, and preference temperature in Mahi-mahi and other marine creatures available from the RSMAS lab.
Target group
PhD students, Post Docs or junior researchers needing skills to measure aquatic animal respiration, swimming performance or behavior.
Location
The Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science (RSMAS), University of Miami, Florida, USA. The brand new labs at RSMAS is the ideal location for this course. The Grosell lab have extensive experience with Loligo equipment having used it for years, and they have well-studied readily accessible organisms needed for this hands-on experimental course.
Dates
The 5-days course is held from January 8–12, 2018.
Application
We welcome applications from PhD students, post docs or junior researchers. Prior experience with respirometry, swim tunnels or behavior analysis is advisable but not essential.

Enrollment is limited to 16 students.
Costs
A $1500 USD course fee (excl. board) is to be prepaid to secure a place in this wokshop. Upon acceptance and registration participants will received an invoice with payment instructions. Notice that the course fee includes accommodation in a Coconut Grove 4-star hotel as well as transportation to and from the lab.
Students attending a workshop may apply for a U.S Visitor Visa (B-1 Visa) if required.
