Swim tunnel

From 8,300.00 (EUR)

Features

  • Glass materials for minimum O2 uptake/release
  • Anti-corrosive materials for minimum maintenance
  • Tool free assembly for easy cleaning and servicing
  • Optional replacement glass tubes for shorter/longer working section
  • Strong brushless DC motor for high speeds and long life-time
  • Control box for manual or automated speed control
  • Re-usable strong cardboard crate for transportation
  • Ports and fittings for various oxygen sensors
  • Water bath and external motor for exact temperature control

Loligo® swim tunnels have been developed for measuring the physiology, energetics, behavior, biomechanics and kinematics of swimming fish, through years of research and laboratory use. Applications also include studies of fluids, visualization of flow around objects, hydraulics, and public display of aquatic wildlife. The unique and compact design allows enough space for "free" swimming and an adequate volume for reliable oxygen consumption measurements.

360° swim tunnel

From 25,000.00 (EUR)

Features

  • Dry compartment for video equipment and/or sensors
  • Viewing/Filming from all sides: Both sides, from above, and from underneath
  • Control box for manual or automated speed control of water velocity
  • Ports for oxygen and temperature probes and intermittent respirometry
  • Anti-corrosive materials for minimum maintenance
  • Tool free assembly for easy cleaning and servicing
  • Double-lid for easy access to test section
  • Adjustable vanes and collimators for modifying flow profile
  • Re-usable wooden crate for transportation
  • Water bath and external motor for temperature control

This 360º swim tunnel is a specialized version of a standard Loligo® swim tunnel. A wider middle section houses a dry compartment for a camera to film swimming animals from inside the test section through a thin acrylic wall. This means that the swimming animal can be viewed and filmed from all four angles: left, right, from above, and from underneath, and all through single acrylic walls for optimum optical quality.

Hence, we named this baby the 360º swim tunnel!

The compact design and small volume still allow for respirometric methods. Applications include physiology, behavior, bioenergetics, biomechanics or kinematic measurements.

Treadmill swim tunnel

From 30,000.00 (EUR)

Features

  • Motorized belt with independent touch screen speed controller
  • Transparent belt and acrylic wall/lid for optimum imaging
  • Manual or automated water velocity control of motor driving propeller
  • Anti-corrosive materials for minimum maintenance even with seawater
  • Tool free assembly for easy cleaning and servicing
  • Double-lid for easy access to test section
  • Adjustable vanes and collimators for modifying flow profile
  • Re-usable wooden crate for transportation
  • Ports for oxygen and temperature probes and intermittent respirometry
  • Water bath and external motors for temperature control

The treadmill swim tunnel is a specialized version of a standard Loligo® swim tunnel. The floor of the test section is a motorized belt, and speed can be controlled independent of the water velocity, so that you can force-exercise flatfish, rays, crustaceans or other benthic animals that walk rather than swim.

The moving belt is made from a transparent food-grade rubber material (TPE) enabling video filming from below, and filming can be done through the planar acrylic lid and outer sidewall too.

The compact design and small volume still allow for respirometric methods.

Applications include physiology, behavior, bioenergetics, biomechanics or kinematic measurements on walking fish/inverts.

Open flume tank

From 6,000.00 (EUR)

Features

  • Adjustable water velocity ≈ swimming speed
  • Easy access to animal in open test section
  • Swimming animals can be filmed from multiple angles
  • Pumps, fittings and tubing included for recirculation of water

Open flume tank system for force-swimming individuals or groups of zebrafish fry-juveniles (or similar) in a controlled recti-linear flow. Water velocity can be adjusted from 2-28 cm/s with a diaphragm valve or by changing the (included) pump flow rate. The exact flow is monitored in real-time with an inline paddlewheel (inductive) flow sensor and a transmitter with a digital display. Swimming animals can be filmed from left and right as well as from above and below. The open test section makes it easy to add or remove specimens. Typical applications include zebrafish phenotyping, swimming performance, exercise physiology, behavior etc. in freshwater or seawater species.

NOTE: The diaphragm valve and paddlewheel flow sensor is included. Mesh diameter size (in honeycomb and metal mesh) can be changed upon request. Contact us for more information.
