New Automated Ucrit Systems
If you are using a Loligo® swim tunnel for swim trials only (no O2 measurements), our new AutoSwim software will automate water velocity control via a wireless Bluetooth device (DAQ-BT).
Our complete systems for swimming performance includes a swim tunnel, our new and user-friendly AutoSwim software and everything needed for automated water velocity control and calibration. Applications include:
- Ucrit tests
- Swimming behavior
- Forced exercise
- Swimming kinematics
As well as experiments requiring accurate and computerized control of activity level/swimming speed.
We offer a variety of mini, large and very large swim tunnels that are suitable for animals ranging in sizes from 1 g – 15 kg, and can withstand water velocities from 0.7 – 200 cm/s.
Feel free to contact us regarding a quote or if you have any questions about our complete systems for swimming performance.

Coral reef larvae respirometry
In a new study, Dr. Xaymara Serrano from NOAA used a 200 µl microplate system to measure oxygen consumption in two species of Caribbean reef coral larvae. The team from the Atlantic Oceanographic and Meteorological Laboratory and the Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science, both in Miami, looked at the effects of multiple stressors on the performance of the larvae, and published the results in Coral Reefs including a detailed description on how they used the equipment to determine oxygen consumption rates in such minute organisms.

Effects of thermal stress and nitrate enrichment on the larval performance of two Caribbean reef corals

Symposium: CO2 Highs and Lows
Loligo® Systems is a proud sponsor of the upcoming symposium Lessons from two high CO2 worlds - future oceans and intensive aquaculture taking place in São Miguel, Azores, 10 – 12 April 2018.
This symposium will bring together climate change and aquaculture scientists to stimulate discussion on the direction of future research priorities and mitigation strategies to alleviate negative impacts of high CO2 on future aquatic ecosystems and the sustainable production of fish, invertebrates and algae in aquaculture.
Read more about the symposium or book your place with an early bird booking on or before 3rd of February 2018.

Microplate Respirometry Software Tool
We present a new software called MicroResp™ for users of our microplate respirometry systems.
MicroResp™ is user-friendly software for Windows that will automate microplate respirometry, calculate and analyze respiration data, and get the most out of your oxygen microplate reader.
It replaces old and current programs entirely as this one piece of software handles device communication, calibration, data acquisition, analysis, and statistics.
Hence, this software will save you a lot of time for experiments and post-analysis, and provide more accurate oxygen and MO2 data with a higher time resolution.
Features
- Individual sensor spot calibration (2-points)
- Faster sampling rate (<5 sec)
- Randomize wells (control/treatment)
- Graph/Analyze data based on treatments
- Calculate respiration rates in real-time
- Compensate for background respiration
- Normalize oxygen values
- Operate multiple readers from a single PC
- Save data, graphs and statistics to Excel file
Feel free to ask us any questions about MicroResp™ or contact us about a quote.

Loligo® Prize Winners
Dr. Björn Illing (JCU) and Murray Duncan (Rhodes University) both won early-career researcher prize money from Loligo® during the 10th Indo-Pacific Fish Conference in Tahiti; each brought home $500 as a result of their strong research within the fields of fish physiology.
Both early-career researchers presented their hard work during the Conservation Physiology of the Indo-Pacific Fishes: Facing problems and finding solutions session. One of the winners, Dr. Björn Illing, talked about ”How physiology can support the management and conservation of coral reef fishes” while the other winner, Murray Duncan, presented his findings on how “Marine protected areas provide species with physiological resilience to the impacts of climate change”. The winners can be seen smiling on the picture of this article.
We wish Dr. Björn Illing and Murray Duncan all the best for their future research careers.

Affordable New Swim Tunnel Controller
We have launched a new Bluetooth device, DAQ-BT, for wireless control of Loligo® swim tunnels for a much lower price than before!
The DAQ-BT allows for automated velocity data acquisition and control, and is fully compatible with our AutoSwim software for automated swim tunnel control, AutoResp™ software for intermittent respirometry and the Bluetooth power strip.
The wireless Bluetooth communication enables you to have your swim tunnel setup at a safe distance to your PC. No more tripping over wires, zero water splish-splashes on your PC and no need to use a grounded stationary desktop PC; the DAQ-BT can run straight from your laptop.
Most importantly, the Bluetooth technology allows you to connect multiple DAQ-BT to one Windows computer and thus operate multiple swim tunnels from a single laptop PC.
We hope that the new DAQ-BT controller will become a useful assistant in your swim tunnel work. Feel free to let us know how you use your DAQ-BT.
